In the PDF attached, we connect Honorable Founder Leonard F. Morse to South Florida with news clippings. 

One of the most interesting clippings, to me,  shows that in 1956 he spoke at Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Overtown for Phi Beta Sigma's Founders Day Celebration--it's really awesome that we're now able to place Honorable Founder Morse in the Historic Overtown! 

Other clippings show him at various events underscoring the 42nd Annual Conclave which was held in Miami, and a State Conference that was held in Orlando. In the State Conference photo, a few Brother's from Rho Sigma are included. See attached.....

Biographical Sketch of bro. Benjamin F. Addison

bro. Benjamin F. Addison

  • Benjamin F. Addison was born in Jacksonville Florida on April 5, 1947. Benjamin is the eldest son of five boys born to Benjamin and Naomi Addison. He attended the public schools of Duval County graduating from the New Stanton Senior High School in 1965. .
  • Here in Florida, Benjamin has been, for many years, one of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity’s most active, productive and influential leaders, from his early years as an undergraduate student at Florida Memorial University, where he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. As an undergraduate member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, Beta Pi Chapter, he served tirelessly as chapter President. Benjamin was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma 0n December 2, 1967
  • After graduation from Florida Memorial University he taught Social Studies in Miami Dade County Public Schools for thirty-two (32) years. He was a very active member of the United Teachers of Dade County. As a member of UTD he served on the Teacher of the Year Task Force (TOY) for Miami-Dade County Schools. As a member of UTD he also served as Union building Steward until his retirement. As a teacher he also served as the Chairman of the Social Studies department at Jose Marti Middle school. Benjamin also received his Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in administration and supervision.
  • Following his graduation from Florida Memorial University, Benjamin has served with distinction for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated for fifty-four (54) years and has always focused on empowering minorities with the desire to exercise their right to vote. He serves as the registered agent for voter registration for his chapter. Benjamin has also worked with community groups to register citizens to vote in Miami Gardens. 
  • As an active member of the Rho Sigma chapter Benjamin was also selected as the Sigma Man of the Year for his chapter. Benjamin was selected as the FRATER of the year by the by the local NPHC. He also served as the local NHPC representative. He also served as chapter secretary.
  • Over the years, Benjamin has held many high-level, local leadership positions in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated including: Chapter President of Rho Sigma, Florida State Director, secretary for the State of Florida, Southern Regional Director of Social Action which encompasses the states of Alabama, Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. Benjamin has also served as liaison with the local Zeta chapter.
  • Benjamin is a Life Member in Sigma and is a member of The Outstanding Sigma’s of the Southern Region “OSSR.”
  • Benjamin’s work in the state of Florida has been recognized by his becoming a member of the Florida Hall of Fame. He is truly dedicated to the state of Florida and what it stands for, “FLORIDA, the State of BROTHERHOOD”. 
  • After retirement Benjamin served for twenty (20) years as the head Trustee at First Baptist Church of Bunche Park. He also serves as an usher at his church.
